GastroShark

This may be my last blog entry. At the moment the temperature is minus 5, but when I walk home tonight laden with cheap plates and the new blender I just bought, it will be minus 11. Which is a novel enough experience as it's never really lower than minus 5 in Reykjavik and I certainly have never experienced temperatures lower than minus 7.

But guess what? I forgot my gloves at home today (don't tell my mother!) which means that after my 20 minute walk home I will probably have frostbite on my fingers. And to make matters worse, it's going to be minus 15 tomorrow and on Saturday, perhaps even minus 20. Which would be fine if I were indoors or in the hot pots, but I will be making my way inland to the even colder countryside for a day's sightseeing.

The plan is to meet two English friends in Mossfellsbær, the last suburbian outpost of the city, and motor off in the glorious sunshine to Thingvellir in Sarah's trusty Ford Ka. Except I doubt the tiny car is the best form of transport for icy country roads and it probably has never experienced minus 20 degrees before. There's another thought, will my mobile phone work in such extreme cold?! I will have my frost-bitten fingers crossed.........
